I Can’t Believe How Much You’ve Grown in 2 Weeks!

I feel so blessed to be having a baby at a time when ultrasounds can show us the amount of detail that we see today, and witness my baby growing inside me at my Ultrasound appointment visits.

I knew that babies grow quick, but I had no idea how quick. Because I have had a miscarriage before, my doctors wanted to keep track of my pregnancy with an extra ultrasound early on. My ultrasound at 6.5 weeks was of course little more than a little sac and pea with a heartbeat – but how wonderful it was to see that heartbeat! I also took two additional ultrasounds, one of my baby at 10 weeks to confirm that all was progressing well, and of course the big  12 week ultrasound alongside my NIPT test.

What an amazing difference to see! My 10 week ultrasound shows the beginnings of a human being coming to form. It had a solid heartbeat of 156 beats per minute and was moving like a tiny dancer. This little human was now doing a little dance in my womb – kicking, punching, flexing and raising its tiny arms above its head. I couldn’t believe that all this movement was happening inside me, and I didn’t even know it! I was told that the baby’s such as its brain, liver, kidneys, intestines were all in place and starting to function too.

When I went in for my 12 week ultrasound I was gobsmacked. How could something grow so quick in just 2 weeks! What I was now seeing was a beautifully formed mini human. Its head was still relatively larger than its body, but getting to better proportions now, and its limbs were longer too. I could even see it wiggling about and touching its little face, now sporting a cute visible little nose.

So much happens in just a 2 week period. I can’t wait to see more as my little son or daughter develops, and feel my first flutters of movement.
